The oldest voter in the South Sudan referendum preferred the British colonial rule as she compared to the one of the Northern Arabs.

Mama Rebecca Kadi Loburang cast her vote for independence saying it is the only option that will bring peace for generations to come.

SCR News spoke to the old woman’s granddaughter about her grandmother’s view about the referendum.

She said her grandmother was voting so that the young ones would live in peace after she died.

Mama Rebecca says she is 115 years and according to the Help the Aged she is the oldest woman in Southern Sudan.

The woman was too old to vote by herself, but she used a wheelchair and was assisted by the polling staff and voted yesterday at Sadaka pooling centre in Juba.
