The group called Countdown to Southern Sudan Referendum said 71 percent of the registered voters have already cast their ballots by Tuesday evening.

John Andruga Duku, an official from the group, told SCR News that they carried out an exit poll to calculate the general turnout.

Mr. Andruga added that other local observers agreed with their projection.

Mr. Duku regretted the low turn out in the north but confirmed that their participation would not affect the final result since they represent less than three per cent of registered voters.

Mr. Duku called upon the registered voters who have not cast their ballots to turn out and vote before Saturday when the polling for self-determination ends.
