The African Union observers’ leader said his team saw transparency and smoothness in the on-going polling for the south Sudan referendum.
Victor Lwisi Tonchi told the press last evening in Juba that reports indicate a massive turnout.Mr. Tonchi noted that the vulnerable have been given priority.
He said no major problems were reported so far.
Dr. Lwisi recommend the authorities to make sure that long queues and distances do not discourage voters.
He urged the polling staff to continue providing assistance to voters in need.
The AU has a team of 110 observers in South Sudan including national electoral commissions, parliaments and Pan-African parliament members.
