A voter who had to queue for two successive days to cast his ballot in the ongoing Southern Sudan referendum said he felt relieved and with a light heart after voting on Monday evening.

Abraham Chol Marial told Good News Radio that he started queuing on Sunday at 6 AM at Rumbek’s Freedom Square polling centre but he could not cast his ballot due to the large number of voters ahead of him.

Mr. Chol managed to vote yesterday at 5 PM after queuing for another full day.

He said his vote relieved him from the many years of stress and he felt light, expressing hope that the referendum gives birth to a new nation.

Mr. Chol added that Southern Sudanese are willing to wait for some more months to become a new nation, explaining that the people have been struggling for years to achieve independence.

He urged the registered voters who have not cast their ballot to seize the opportunity and take part in the poll.

Mr. Chol said each vote counts and each vote can bring lasting freedom and everlasting peace to South Sudan.

There has been a remarkably high turnout in most of the polling centres in Lakes State and voters have shown enthusiasm in the whole voting exercise.
