Misseriya Arab tribesmen ambushed a convoy of south Sudanese returnees near the boarder between Northern Bahr el Ghazal and South Kordofan and ten people were killed, an official said.

GoSS minister for Internal Affairs Gier Chaung Aloung told the press this morning that ten people were killed and several others injured in the ambush.

The attack was confirmed by Northern Bahr el Ghazal governor, Paul Malong Awan.

Mr. Chuang added that the attackers looted the property of the returnees while the trucks turned back to the north.

Mr. Chuang said the attack took place in Northern Sudan.

He accused the north authorities of being behind the ambush either by organizing it or failing to control the Misseriya militias.

Mr. Gier said the UN was informed about the deadly Misseriya attack.

He appealed for UNMIS forces to be deployed along north-south border to protect the residents and returnees coming home.

The returnees were travelling in 30 buses and seven trailers.
