The referendum authorities extended the closing time of polling centres from 5 to 6 PM to facilitate registered voters to participate in the plebiscite on self-determination.
Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau Chairperson, Chan Reec Madut, told the press this morning that his counterpart at the Commission, Mohammed Ibrahim Khalil, decided to keep the polling centres open until 6 PM.Asked by SCR News if the Commission would extend the voting period beyond Saturday, Justice Reec said it was unlikely.
He urged people to come and vote within the remaining four days.
Justice Reec said close to one million people voted in almost half of the polling centres in South Sudan during the first two days.
He added the Bureau did not get reports yet from 54 percent of the voting stations due to problems with telecommunications.
Justice Reec said so far the vote has been a jubilant feast without incidents across South Sudan.
