The head of the European Union Election Observation Mission yesterday toured polling stations in Rumbek and Wau accompanied by journalists from eight international and local media outlets including SCR News.

Veronique De Keyser made courtesy calls to governors Chol Tong Mayay of Lakes State and Rizig Zakaria Hassan of Western Bahr el Ghazal.

The chief EU observer visited some polling stations in Rumbek and Wau and she was very moved by what she saw.

Ms De Keyzer said at the end of her visit that she was happy because the referendum was taking place on time in a very quiet and peaceful manner with voters expressing their dignity and joy.

The chief EU observer praised all authorities and officials who worked hard to make the referendum such an achievement.

In Rumbek, Ms De Keyzer made a visit to a returnees’ transit camp greeting people who arrived by land from Khartoum on Sunday, the day voting started.
