Former South Sudan High Executive President warned Egypt for interfering on the right of self-determination for the people of south Sudan to protect its Nile waters share.
Joseph Lagu, who is GoSS presidential advisor, told SCR News that Egypt should not fear an independent south Sudan but their fellow Arab brothers in the north who are the ones who need the Nile waters.Mr. Lagu said South Sudan cannot stop the Nile flow.
He added that Egypt played a great role in leading foreign forces to colonize Sudan.
Addressing the press in Juba over the weekend, former Kenyan president Arop Moi said the Nile waters should not be used to destabilize relations between Egypt and South Sudan.
Mr. Moi said the Nile forged relationships among other riparian states.
A leaked US diplomatic cable reported that last year Egypt lobbied the US to postpone southern Sudan’s self determination referendum by four to six years fearing that the new nation could jeopardize its Nile waters share.
