The chairperson of the Media Committee in the Referendum Commission called upon the public media to give equal time and opportunity to both unity and secession campaigners.
Quoting articles 45 and 46 of the Referendum Law, Mahjoub Mohamed Salih said government owned media must give equal time and opportunity to campaigners for unity and separation.Mr. Salih added that his team sent letters to the governments of Sudan and south Sudan regarding the attribution of equal time and opportunity of both options.
Mr. Salih called on both governments to allow campaigners to give a foundation of an enlightened debate both in the north and south ahead of the vote.
Mr. Salih was speaking during a public debate organized by Voice of America on what the referendum means for the people of south Sudan today.
