Yei County celebrated today the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities.

The celebration started with a procession of students and other people to the commissioner’s administrative block and participants gathered later at Yei’s Freedom Square, Easter Radio reported.

Benson Friday, chairman of Disabled Action Group in Yei, thanked the NGOs working with persons living with disabilities.

Mr. Friday said that the disabled people face very many challenges and they are ignored by their own family members and looked at as a burden.

He appealed to NGOs and government institutions to help persons with disabilities by providing them any kind of job.

Mr. Friday encouraged people with disabilities to take an active part in the community because they are also part of it.

Susan Monoah Philip, who is Gender Equity and Social Change Education officer, said that education is open to all categories of people without discrimination.

Ms. Monoah added that persons with disability are equally important as people with abled bodies.
