The ruling parties in North and South Sudan are studying the new proposal presented by the African Union High-Level Panel on Sudan to solve the impasse on the Abyei Protocol implementation.

Thabo Mbeki, who heads the Panel, met with President Omar Hassan al Bashir and first vice president Salva Kiir Mayardit in Khartoum on Saturday to present his new plan to overcome the deadlock at the negotiations.

Cirino Hitend Ofuho, GoSS minister for Presidential Affairs, told journalists at Juba International airport today that the proposal has eight options that are under study by both the NCP and SPLM and they would give a response within two days.

Dr. Hitend added that and the presidency would meet again on Thursday to negotiate the proposals.

Dr. Hitend did not disclose details of the AU new plan, saying that for the time being the proposals were for the parties to discuss.
