Southern Sudan will face democratic challenges after the referendum regardless its outcome, a UN official said.
Jasbir Singh Lidder is the head of UNMIS. He said Southerners will look for freedom and rights they fought for after the referendum.Mr. Singh said that the need for these freedom and rights will engage political, economic and social activities after the referendum.
Mr. Singh added that providing the basic rights of the people of southern Sudan would pose big challenges to the government.
He said that the UN was committed to support human rights issues during and after the referendum.
Mr. Singh made these remarks during the launch of the Southern Sudan Human Rights Forum yesterday in Juba.
