Catholics took to the streets of Juba this morning with the Blessed Sacrament to pray for a peaceful referendum in the Sudan.
The procession that gathered hundreds of faithful began at Saint Joseph parish, proceeded to John Garang’s Mausoleum, and ended at Saint Theresa’s Cathedral, in Kator.Anthony Surur was one of the marchers. He told Bakhita Radio that that he came to the procession to pray for peace in Sudan before and after the referendum.
Mr. Surur said that any action that started with prayer would be successful, because God was always listening to his people.
Catherine Gabriel, a student from Comboni Secondary School, said she placed the referendum process in the hands of Christ, since the procession coincided with the feast of Christ the King.
Daniel Swaka was among the marching Crusaders. He said he wanted to vote for secession in order to be free and a first class citizen in a sovereign state.
The procession took four hours and concluded at Saint Theresa’s Cathedral Kator with the blessing of the Holy Sacrament.
