Search for food, education and work is driving many kids from Eastern Equatoria into the streets of Juba.

This is the assessment of Mie Nakanishi who heads the Japan Centre for Conflict Prevention office in Juba.

Ms. Nakanishi told SCR News that her organization is working with street children who came from Eastern Equatoria to Juba to look for food, education and job opportunities.

Ms. Nakanishi added that the children were not able to find any of these opportunities available and ended up in the streets of Juba.

She added that they survived eating leftovers from restaurants.

Ms. Nakanishi said that there are over 800 children living in the streets of Juba.

She added that Upper Nile state alone has some 5000 children living in the streets.

Ms. Nakanishi called upon the government and communities to actively prevent children from ending up living in the streets.
