Registration is going on smoothly in Ugandan rebels’ affected areas in Western Equatoria and threats have not been reported.

Samuel David Sete, chairperson of the Nzara Referendum Sub-committee, told SCR News yesterday that there has been no threat or attack since the beginning of the registration by Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels operating in the area.

Mr. Sete said registrars are escorted by security personnel in places suspected to be LRA’s targets.

The Chairperson of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau Chan Reec Madut said the LRA remained a concern since the police in the affected areas remain poorly armed.

Justice Reec pledged to discuss a security beef up with the government.

Meanwhile, registration officials are complaining of lack of food, water and money.

John Danato, the supervisor of Duduma Referendum Centre number 16 in Yambio said registration staff did not receive food allowances since the start of the exercise.

The head of Western Equatoria referendum committee, Suprino Barnaba Furjalla said a long rainy season affected the roads hindering assessment of centres located deep in the state.
