The army of South Sudan made plans to prevent the Ugandan rebels operating in Western Equatoria to disrupt the referendum vote in the state.

SPLA spokesman Colonel Phillip Aguer Panyang told SCR News that the army is prepared to protect the voting whenever their services are needed to supplement the capacity of the police, which is in charge of security during the referendum process.

Mr. Aguer said the SPLA was cooperating with the Ugandan army and any other country that was trying to eliminate the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

LRA rebels have been in south Sudan for over five years abducting children, raping women, killing civilians and spreading fear and insecurity.
