MUSLIM LEADER CALLS ON SOUTHERNERS TO REGISTER FOR REFERENDUM

A leading Muslim official called on southerners to register in order to vote during the referendum on January 2011.

Yunis Zeid El Madeni, is the Secretary General for El Dawa and member of Islamic High Council in Southern Sudan. He told Bakhita Radio after the prayer of Eid-Al-Adha this morning in Juba, that the vote for referendum was a secret between the believer and Allah.

Mr. Yunis called on southerners, especially Muslims, to dedicate themselves to this national duty to register for the referendum.

Mr. Yunis said southerners had the right to choose between unity and separation to determine their future adding that there is nothing wrong about any of the options.

Mr. Yunis said he prayed for peace in southern Sudan, particularly during this period of the blessed feast of Eid-Al-Adha.

Thousands of Muslims gathered at El Zahra playground, in Juba, to mark the first day of the feast of Eid El Adha, the Sacrifice Festival.
