A local chief from Morobo County urged southerners living in the north not to register for the referendum to avoid vote rigging by Khartoum.

Chief Nicholas Die Aluma who returned recently to southern Sudan encouraged southerners in the north not to register because the NCP would manipulate their votes for unity, Bakhita Radio reported.

He revealed that many people who did not belong to the south were lining up for registration in Gadaref.

Mr. Aluma said they could be used to harm the needed 60 percent turnout for the referendum.

Mr. Aluma explained that many southerners are willing to come home but are troubled by lack of transportation.

He urged the Government of southern Sudan to send some money to facilitate the IDPs to travel south.

Mr. Aluma said some southerners are divided about returning as their children are in schools and universities in the north.
