The Southern Sudanese community in Uganda decided to boycot the voter registration exercise in Uganda and want first to know the total number of the citizens living in the country.
Chairperson of Community Referendum Coordination Committee in Uganda, Nathaniel Oyet, said the census was not conducted to determine the number of Sudanese present in Uganda, Kampala based New Vision newspaper reported.Mr. Oyet stated that it would allow non Sudanese to register and vote in the referendum.
He added that the number of registerd voter could be inflated by the government of Khartoum.
Mr. Oyet said that the question of eligibility of voters created suspicion since the referendum criteria empower any person without a Sudanese national identity card to be registered upon backing by any eligible voter.
