The head of the United Nations humanitarian office called for better protection of civilians in Western Equatoria.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, made this plea while visiting 13 thousand IDPs in Ezo County who fled their homes over the past three years to escape Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) terror in the area, UN News reported.Ms. Amos said the protection of civilians must be at the heart of the planning process of the recently announced joint government initiative for an anti-LRA force involving Uganda, South Sudan and DR Congo forces.
She added that all components of the force, in particular the Arrow Boys, should be subject to close Government oversight, in collaboration with expert protection partners.
