A US senior politician offered to take Sudan out of the list of states that sponsor terrorism if Khartoum holds two key referenda on time and honors its results.

Senator John Kerry made President Barak Obama’s offer to the Khartoum government yesterday.

The United States would drop Sudan from its list of state sponsors of terrorism in July 2011 if Khartoum held the referenda for the self-determination of South Sudan and Abyei in January and the results were respected.

Between January and July, Khartoum should also keep post-referendum agreements relating to border demarcation, oil revenue sharing, currency, citizenship, and other matters.
