The African Union and South Sudan Political Parties Council are collaborating in order to re-launch the work of the council that was formed ahead of the 2010 national elections.
Fibel Ufundi, a member of the Council, told the press today in Juba the Referendum Code of Conduct outlined the principles and standards for the political parties in the conduct of the referenda.Mr. Ufundi added parties should concentrate on mobilization, civic education and advocacy towards the referenda.
Asked what the Council achieved during the April elections, Mr. Ufundi said his team studied grievances presented by different parties and forwarded them to the courts of law.
He stressed that some parties preferred reconciliation to arbitration.
The new Referendum Code of Conduct was adopted by all parties and civil society organizations at the just concluded All-Southern Sudan Political Parties’ Conference held in Juba from October 13 to 17, 2010,
Key signatories to the Code of conduct included NCP, SPLM, SPLM-DC and civil society organizations.
