Central Equatoria health authorities re-launched today the Accelerated Child Survival campaign to combat child mortality in the state through public sensitization.

UN agencies, NGO s and government representatives attended the function under the theme “Protect your child by immunization; prevent malaria by sleeping under mosquito nets; and diseases by washing hands.”

Central Equatoria Minister for Health, Emmanuel Ija Baya, told the participants that diseases threatening children were so many that they demanded an increase on health prevention activities.

Mr. Baya said due to financial support and vaccination campaigns, common diseases including measles, malaria and typhoid were less fatal than before.

Mr. Baya said his ministry planned to improve hospitals and health centres with equipment and medical staff to be able to perform emergency operations locally.

He added that the ministry wanted to have a permanent doctor in Terekeka, Lainya and Morobo to minimize referrals.

The Accelerated Child Survival campaign that started today lasts for three days of mobilization and sensitization through music on child health issues.
