TRAINING FOR REFERENDUM REGISTRATION STARTS NEXT WEEK

The recruiting and training of over 10 thousand people who will register voters for the 2011 referendum is due to start next week and will be done at three levels, an official said.

Dong Samuel Luak, is a member of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau in charge of training. He told SCR News that the training program starts on October 26 in Juba, and proceeds to each state capital and then to every county capital

Mr. Luak said that the 50 people trained in Juba will move to their state capitals to train 238 county officials that on their turn will train the 7839 registry officials from each referendum centre.

Mr. Luak added that training kits have already arrived and training manuals are due to arrive soon.

He agreed that time was running short but the training would be concluded before voters’ registration starts on November 14.

Mr. Luak confirmed that the swearing-in of the Referendum Sub-committees at county level is progressing well and the Southern Sudan Referendum will take place on time.
