GoSS minister for Internal Affairs, Gier Chuang Aluong, told the participants in the Government-Church Forum that SPLA soldiers took position at north-south boarder to stop troops from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) coming to the south.
Mr. Chuang said insecurity at the boarders was alarming and added that its handling needed much caution since the situation was critical.
The minister said insecurity posed by different militia groups including Ugandan rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army and SAF was a threat to the referendum.
Mr. Chuang added that the situation must be handled before it is out of control.
He revealed that the government of Southern Sudan was preparing a strategy that would address the issues of insecurity before and during the referendum.
In a related development, Mr. Chuang said that the pilots of an helicopter caught supplying arms and food to renegade Gen. George Athor in Jonglei State, were released yesterday after being questioned by the security forces.
He added that so far nobody claimed the helicopter that is parked in the cargo area of Juba International Airport.
