VICE PRESIDENT CALLS FOR REFERENDUM SLOGANS FOR PASTORAL COMMUNITIES

Vice President of the government of Southern Sudan called on the ministry of animal resources in the states to initiate slogans and symbols to create awareness on the forthcoming referendum to the cattle keeping communities.

Dr. Riek Machar Teny made this comment while opening a regional Southern Sudan Livestock and Fisheries Coordination meeting at Torit Hotel in Eastern Equatoria state that the lives of the pastoralist communities changes according to pattern of the year.

He suggested that slogans and symbols associated with objects familiar to the pastoralists would help create awareness before they shift their positions as the referendum approaches.

The vice president asserted that signs initiated by other sectors as symbols and slogans for referendum are likely not to have impact to cattle keepers and fishing communities.

He asked the animal resources and Fisheries sectors to help the referendum committees to incorporate signs that can adequately enlighten the people.

The vice president revealed that the government of Southern Sudan has approved fund for referendum exercise, adding the money awaits the Finance minister for release.
