The newly appointed Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Torit launched the 101 days of prayers for a peaceful referendum in Southern Sudan.

Celestino Murras called on the Christians to focus on the proposal of Sudan Catholic Bishops during their last extraordinary meeting in July for spiritual preparation for the referendum.

He said the 101 days the Catholic Church in Sudan will be in prayers for peaceful referendum
Fr. Murras said the launching of the 101 days coincides with the reading of the day on about social injustice drawn from the book of prophet Amos.

He asked the Lord to strengthen the faith and intentions of the Christians so as to be more committed, for the universal love to prevail and seeking pardon and forgiveness.

Fr. Murras added that the youth in Southern Sudan have taken to prepare the people mentally but the changes ahead require spiritual preparations.

Solidarity with South Sudan and Catholic Relief Service have teamed together to launch the 101 days of prayer campaign for peace in preparation to 2011 referendum.
