Western Bahr El Ghazal Ministry of Co-operatives and Rural Development announced the formation of 27 agricultural co-operatives in state to ease the preparations for the new farming season.
Co-operatives Minister Joseph Zachariah Garang said during a joint ministerial meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture that the event aimed at forming farmers co-operatives in order to reactivate plans and develop rural areas, Voice of Hope reported.He revealed that three co-operatives will be formed at every Payam and each county will have six to nine co-ops.
Mr Zachariah said preparations are in place to increased productivity and ensured food security in the coming season.
He added that recommendations will be given to the co-operatives to access bank loans.
The Ministry will also supervise the co-operatives to ensure success.
Western Bahr El Ghazal currently has 11 co-operatives: six in Raja County, three in Wau County and two in Jur River County.
The state government is planning to form at least 16 more.
