National and state governments in partnership with the United Nations agencies started an assessment of food insecurity situation in the Greater Kapoeta Counties of Eastern Equatoria state.

Director for Relief and Food Security Lenox Amazai led a delegation of United Nations agencies, National Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission to assess the hunger situation in the area, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Mr Amazai said the team will be at a best position to take decision after assessing the magnitude of the situation.

He stressed that the team will conduct a thorough assessment and come up with long term solutions to handle the situation.

About ten people are reported to have died in the three Kapoeta Counties as result of food shortage.

No recent data on the hunger death toll has been availed to the public since the government sounded hunger alarm, early this year.

Eastern Equatoria state government attributed food insecurity in Kapoeta Counties to flooding resulting from too much rainfalls and unreliable rainfall, causing poor crop yields and harvest last year.
