CEPO, the Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation, expressed deep worry over Abyei’s referendum implementation that is due in October.

CEPO coordinator Edmond Yakani told Bakhita Radio that the Khartoum Government looks at Abyei as a wealthy region which it does not want to lose.

He said Khartoum took the border line as a potential ground for pushing political tension between the two countries.

Mr Yakani added that the Khartoum Government wanted to avoid Blue Nile, Southern Kordofan and Misseriya demanding their rights like South Sudan.

He said Abyei peace was being diluted by regional politics.

Mr Yakani added that within the AU votes were casted and it was agreed that the Abyei referendum must be conducted in October.

He said shortly they noticed that some leaders within the AU had an interest in Khartoum showing lack of transparency.

The Abyei Referendum should be conducted in October.
