The annual inflation rate went up almost ten points between December and January.
The National Bureau of Statistics said between January 2012 and 2013 prices went up 35 percent.The biggest increases were registered in Malakal (37.8 percent) and Juba (23.7 percent). Wau’s prices went up only 4.7 percent.
Alcoholic drinks and tobacco prices shot up 231.4 percent. Cereals, fruits and communications were also more expensive.
The monthly inflation between December and January went up 3.5 percent in Malakal and 4.8 in Juba. In Wau, prices were cheaper 5.4 percent.
