United Nations World Food Programme or WFP said the school feeding programme will not start in February with the opening of new academic school year.

WFP School Feeding Programme Officer Castarina Ladu told CRN on Monday that they will start distributing food in April instead of February when schools will be opening as planned by the Government.

She explained that the WFT was told that schools would start in February after they programmed distribution of school feeding in April like in the previous years.

Ms Ladu said WFP has already placed food in various locations that are inaccessible during the rainy season.

She added that WFP is still assessing the schools that will receive food.

Ms Ladu explained that WFP will provide two types of food to be cooked at the schools and to be taken home.

She said girls had to attend 80 percent of the lessons every month in order to be able to take home sorghum and vegetable oil.

The national Government changed the primary schools calendar: classes start in February and end in November instead of running from April until December.
