The governor of Jonglei appealed to the army and the national government to deal with David Yau Yau’s rebellion before May because it is destroying lives in the state.

Governor Kuol Manyang Juk told CRN on Monday over a phone interview that he wanted Yau Yau expelled or dealt with immediately because he was arming the Murle youth and killing innocent civilians.

He held Yau Yau’s rebels responsible for Saturday’s attack in Akobo that killed 103 people during a cattle raid in the county.

Mr Manyang said the situation in Akobo was very bad because people were angry asking why the Yau Yau and the Murle youths were attacking them in their land.

He said some of the wounded were evacuated by an UNMISS helicopter while others were taken to Wulang Hospital.

Mr Manyang added that lack of roads made the situation worse.

The Governor said some cattle were already recovered by the army from the raiders and were being return to the chiefs to give them to the owners.
