SANU, the Sudan African Nation Union, in Western Bahr el Ghazal accused members representing the civil society at Constitution Review Commission of taking the side of the ruling party.
SANU-Wau Secretary Rajab Hussein said in the talk show “South Sudan We Want” on Voice of Hope that civil society members were implementing the policies of the SPLM.He added that the share of SANU in the commission was very minimal.
Mr Hussein claimed that 41 out of 48 members representing the civil society were connected with the SPLM.
He explained that the current review required equal participation of all political parties for the Constitution to reflect the whole of South Sudan.
He called upon the SPLM to make sure that the Permanent Constitution represents the views of the entire country.
SPLM’s Anthony Charles Barendi urged other political parties in the Commission to collect public opinions and aspirations.
He explained that the young country requires loyalty for the members in the commission to come up with a clear Constitution.
Mr Charles said the SPLM was working for democratic transformation.
He urged other political parties to be independent from foreign influence.
The mandate of the commission expired on January 9, but the National Parliament will meet later in the month to extend the mandate for eight months to start reviewing the Transitional Commission and draft the Permanent Constitution.
SANU is represented by three members in National Constitution Review.
