Wanyjok County Prison authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal raised concern over a severe food shortage in the penal institution.
Deputy Director Piol Majok Wek said the prisoners were living in a deplorable condition due to severe lack of food, Bakhita Radio reported.Mr Major added that inmates also lacked a clinic and uniforms.
Inmate Akec Atem said the prisoners have no latrine, no sleeping rooms and the prison is infested with lice.
Inmate Angum Dut Dut said she sleeps on the floor and there is no soap for washing clothes, no clinic and no food.
Deputy Director Majok said the group of traders that signed a four-year contract with the state Ministry of Interior to provide food to the prisoners refused to supply the prison until the state authorities pay their bills.
Wundit Trading Company for Investment, one of the contractors to supply the prison with food, said it suspended to supply the prison with food until the state paid its debts.
