More than 600 pupils from P4 to P8 are taking part in a summer camp organized by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Wau.
The camp opened on January 7 and ends in February to give the children the chance to benefit from their holiday season, instead of ending up on the streets or hanging in the markets.Program Director Daniel Bars told Voice of Hope that the participants learn English, Maths and Religion and other topics that usually are not taught in school like love, friendship and fair play.
The participants take also part in sports and other activities.
Mr Bars explained that this was the first time the Salesians organized a summer camp in Wau and the participation was well beyond expectations.
He said the organizers were expecting 100 to 200 children, but more than 600 registered.
He added that the success is encouraging the Salesians to organize similar initiatives in other locations in February and repeat them in the coming years.
Mr Bars urged all the families to let their children join the summer camp to discover new talents through group debating and encourage them towards a better future.
