Pibor is still tense after the clashes that broke out on Sunday between James Kuburin’s forces and the army at the local market.
Pibor County Commissioner Joshua Konyi told CRN over the phone that Kuburin Ð who in the meantime rejoined the SPLA Ð went to the market with four of his men and one soldier tried to shoot him.He explained that an army sergeant major took out the gun from the soldier, but he had also a hand grenade.
The commissioner added that a warrant officer caught the soldier and they wrestled until the grenade burst.
The soldier died on the spot and the warrant officer was admitted to hospital with a broken hand.
Mr Konyi said there is no civilian inside Pibor except for some 500 civilians who took refuge in the UNMISS compound.
He explained that the situation was bad and part of the town was burnt down on Sunday.
The commissioner added that Kuburin left Pibor and is one hour away from the town.
Other sources say that at least four civilians were killed in clashes following the scuffle at the market between Kuburin’s men and SPLA soldiers.
