The UN children agency or UNICEF launched on Monday in Juba the global appeal for 88.4 million UDS dollars to cater for needs of three million vulnerable South Sudanese children and refugees.
UNICEF Representative Yasim Ali Haque told CRN that out of the 88.4 million dollars, ten million will go the children of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan.Dr Yasim explained that the most of the money will focus on South Sudanese children at home and the returnees.
She said that over 100,000 people are expected to return this year to South Sudan and they need support.
Dr Yasim stressed that the biggest challenges are water sanitation and nutrition where the agency would like to reach 100,000 children in 2013.
She added that to reach the target UNICEF needs an enormous amount of financial resources and developing the capacities where new partners are joining in.
The 88.4 million dollars will tackle issues related to health and nutrition, sanitation and hygiene, education and child protection.
