The head of Union of Journalist of South Sudan (UJOSS) has strongly condemned the killing of a journalist in Juba.

Diing Chan Awuol, a columnist in the Citizen Newspaper, was shot dead at his home in Gudele on Wednesday night by unknown gunmen, Voice of Hope reported.

Oliver Modi Philip on Thursday condemned the murder and called on the security to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators.

He said killing of journalists deprived media practitioners from participating in the development of the country.

Mr. Modi lamented that journalists should be tried in courts of law and detained if found guilty of any offence related to their reporting, instead of being killed.

He said taking journalists lives in South Sudan will never give a true vision of the democratic country.

Modi is in Wau to train journalist on professional reporting to improve the capacity of all media personnel all over the country.
