Central Equatoria State has decided to suspend the decision taken last week by the Governor to resume taxation at two border posts after a meeting with the national finance minister.
State finance Minister Jacob Aligo told the press in Juba that the national and state ministries of finance agreed to form a technical committee to look into the complaints made public by Governor Clement Wani Konga last week, Bakhita Radio reported. He said the two ministers also agreed to suspend the decision taken by Governor Konga to resume tax collection on November 1 until the committee reports its findings.
National finance minister Kosta Manibe said the joint technical committee had two weeks to review the centralised taxes collection system and present recommendations.
Governor Konga last week said the national ministry of finance was not transparent while sharing taxes revenue with the state.
He complained that Central Equatoria was losing too much money from taxation since the system was centralized.
