Western Bahr El-Ghazal has formed a teachers’ union to coordinate teachers’ activities in the state.

South Sudan Teachers General Professional Union conducted on Wednesday its first convention for the formation of the state teachers’ union, Voice of Hope reported.

The convention drew teachers’ representatives from the three counties of Raja, Jur River and Wau.

Kacuol Majuang Kacuol, who heads the preliminary committee for the formation and organization of South Sudan Teachers Union, clarified that the union will help bring teachers together at both national and state level.

He said it was important to organize different sectors in unions for cooperation and unity.

Mr Majuang said the new school programmes, administration and working conditions were the main challenged the Union should help to address.

The Teachers’ Union aims at establishing offices in all the counties in the state to coordinate with the national union in Juba.

Western Bahr El Ghazal teachers should elect their representatives both in the national and state unions.
