Nurses and midwives all over the country suffer from poor pay and disrespect from patients.
The Acting President of the National Nurses and Midwives Association, Polly Grace Osuo, told CRN that nurses and midwives constitute the largest category of health workers in South Sudan.Ms Osuo said nurses and midwives receive low salaries and quite often they are disrespected by clients.
She complained that nurses are not allowed to go abroad to get specialized treatment when they need.
Ms Osuo said the challenges nurses are facing are more or less the same all-over.
She said the situation in Juba is better because nurses can receive specialized medical care usually not available in other states.
The presidents of the nurses associations in the ten states started Tuesday in Juba a two-day executive board meeting to tackle the issues of maternal and child mortality and disability.
Ms Osuo said the meeting √ɬê the first of its kind – looks on ways to improve healthcare services and ensure all the people in South Sudan have access to quality nursing and midwifery care.
