South Sudan Aids Commission launched on Tuesday a nationwide campaign against the killer human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in preparation for the celebration of World Aids Day on December 1.
Esterina Novelo Nyilok, leader of the commission, told the attendance at the launch that this year’s campaign aims to sensitize people and increase awareness about the HIV virus, Bakhita Radio reported.She said the national campaign will run under the banner “Take the lead in the fight against HIV and Aids.”
Dr Novelo explained that 3.8 million people run the risk of being infected with HIV in South Sudan.
Dr Novelo said big progress was made to fight HIV and AIDS but more is needed from the government, NGOs and civil societies to stop the pandemic and fight stigma and discrimination.
