Over 4,000 returnees are surviving in desperate conditions in Kosti, Sudan, abandoned by the authorities and barred from humanitarian agencies.

Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur of Khartoum, in charge of Kosti Pastoral Zone, told CRN that the returnees face huge difficulties especially during the rainy season.

He said the returnees are completely abandoned and struggling on their own to find ways to survive.

The prelate said the number could increase in no time because when IDPs in Sudan hear that there is transport to reach South Sudan they find their way to Kosti.

Bishop Adwok said civil authorities forbade non-governmental organizations to assist the stranded returnees.

He added that the Church will find ways to help those people stranded in Kosti.

Some of the returnees in Kosti have sold their belongings to buy food and medicines while waiting for transport to their various original places in South Sudan.
