The oil agreement reached between South Sudan and Sudan on Wednesday in Addis Ababa is very important because it fulfils the viability of both countries.

Government spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told CRN on Thursday that the oil deal was in the national interests of South Sudan and Sudan.

He said austerity measures will end when oil exports and trade with Sudan resume.

Dr Marial said the agreement on a demilitarized zone between South Sudan and Sudan was very important to maintain the peace.

He said United Nations and the African Union forces will control the buffer zone.

Dr Marial added that Salva Kiir Mayardit and Omar Al Bashir should sign Thursday a number of agreements in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The spokesperson said although there was some progress in the discussions over Abyei, no agreement was reached yet.
