The Government of South Sudan is facing a number of financial risks and uncertainties due to austerity measures put in place after January’s oil production shutdown.

Finance Minister Kosti Manibe Ngai told the press on Tuesday that the government is facing significant uncertainties due to the introduction of austerity measures.

He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant.

Mr Manibe said there were some unavoidable difficulties associated with austerity policy adjustments.

He said cuts in some operational expenditure were biting on services delivery even in priority areas.

Mr Manibe said the Government was determined to bear the situation until the oil started flowing again.

He said the austerity measures the government has put in place would remain until the oil production resumed to allow the executive to continue operating.

The Finance Minister said the austerity measures will continue if Juba and Khartoum did not reach an agreement over pending post-independence issues.
