The President of the Republic accused revenue collectors at border points of pocketing the money that should be used for the good of all.
Salva Kiir Mayardit said in his address at the Police graduation in Juba on Monday that austerity measures taken after the oil shutdown in January were affecting everybody in South Sudan.He said austerity also affected the police training and overall development.
The President added that the governments in Juba and Khartoum will sort out their issues and soon the oil will flow to the international market.
President Kiir said there were other means to gather money for the Government but because of dishonesty, officials tasked with collecting taxes in Nimule, Nadapal, Kaya and Saratanye were keeping the money for themselves.
He called on the ministries of Interior, Finance and Commerce not to allow individuals to pocket much needed revenue money.
President Kiir made these statements while addressing the crowd at Juba Football Stadium during the graduation of the first batch of police officers.
