Nuba Mountains residents have welcomed with some reservation a deal signed by the SPLM-North and the Sudanese Government allowing critical humanitarian aid into the region.
The agreement was inked last week in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, by SPLM-North, Sudanese Government, African Union, Arab League and the UN to bring food relief to thousands who are starving in the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile State. One man said the agreement could represent the first step towards peace in the region.
However, he added that the National Congress Party has a history of broken agreements.
One lady said she was praising God for the agreement that should put an end to widespread famine in Nuba Mountains.
Another gentleman said the agreement was a blessing from God that comes after many people and groups put pressure into the international community to help the suffering people of South Kordofan and Blue Nile.
Some residents said if the food is not delivered very fast, many people may starve to death as the situation on the ground is getting worse.
Aid agencies were banned from Nuba Mountains after the war broke out in June 2011 between the SPLM-North and the Government troops in South Kordofan.
