South Sudan is set to take part in the Secondary Schools Sports Games scheduled to kick off in Burundi in two weeks.

President of South Sudan Secondary School Students Sports Association, Martin Lorsa, said that the aim of the national games was to select a team to represent South Sudan in the regional Inter-Secondary Schools Sports tournament, Good News Radio reported.

The event starts in Burundi on August 23.

Mr Lorsa expressed optimism about the South Sudan’s team.

He added that the themes of unity, friendship and harmony have been realized in the national games that took place during one week in Rumbek.

Mr Lorsa urged the Council of Ministers to establish a centre to train teachers on sports and games.

Lakes State Information Minister Charles Badiri Mayen thanked all those who organized the tournament and the security officers for a job well done.

He said the games were important for the trophies and for the experience the participants had by coming together from different parts of South Sudan.

The two officials were speaking at the conclusion of the National Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Games in Rumbek on Thursday.

The week-long sports tournament was the first in independent South Sudan.
