Shortage of funds is forcing IOM, the International Organization for Migration, to suspend transporting more than 16,000 South Sudanese to their areas of origin.

IOM South Sudan Chief of Mission Vincent Houver said unless new funding is secured, the organization has to suspend all return transport operations within the next two months.

In a press release issued on Friday, Mr Houver said IOM is now preparing 2,500 returnees to leave Renk for Juba by barge.

He warned that money will finish by the beginning of September, putting into question the future of repatriation of returnees.

Mr Houver added that it is critical that onward transport assistance is provided to avoid multiple humanitarian crises at transit points.

IOM has appealed for almost 46 million US dollars to provide assistance to returnees within South Sudan, but so far the organization got only six million.
